Thank goodness for George Orwell, because now, when we say something is 'Orwellian' , everyone knows exactly what we mean:

Gordon Brown: We are about to take the war against terror to a new level

Not to even mention the Orwellian ... Let's see ... billions annually (totaling let's say 10B to date) to catch or turn away about 200 people total over the past 8 years or so ... some of whom (40?) may have had ill intent ... just sticking to cash, if my math is right that come to 50million pounds per. Ah, but what price "safety"?

We can afford it... well, actually, we couldn't afford it even before we gave all our money to the banks. There's a good comments stream on this. I like this one:

"All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." - Hermann Goering
